University of Oklahoma Master of Accountancy
The University of Oklahoma (OU) is a public research university located south of Oklahoma City. Master of Accountancy Degree Highlights
The Master of Accountancy at University of Oklahoma is a part of the Price College of Business. Existing to expand and maintain the business competency of Oklahoma through excellent business and finance programs, the Price College of Business offers undergraduate and graduate level degrees that prepare students for professions in accounting and business. The accountancy program gives students the knowledge to prepare for the Certified Public Accounting (CPA) exam. Encompassing 33 hours of graduate coursework, the program requires 18 hours of accounting classes and 15 credits of general business electives. This unique model offers students the ability to build a solid base of business sense and to develop marketable skills to expand their career opportunities. Accounting courses include Accounting Theory and Research and Accounting Professional Development. Potential business electives are Corporate Finance, The Law of Commercial Transactions, and Management Information Systems. Degree candidates choose between three potential concentrations: assurance services, financial reporting, and taxation. Each concentration specifically prepares graduates for different career paths. Students may choose to forgo a concentration and instead complete the degree with a general focus.
OU offers an online option for completing the Master of Accountancy degree. This option requires no in-person attendance and can be completed in under two years by individuals working full time. The online option can be completed by students worldwide and graduates have a 74% rate of passing the CPA exam on their first attempt. University of Oklahoma Application Requirements
Any student who has completed an undergraduate degree from a recognized university is eligible to apply for the Master of Accountancy program regardless of their degree field. However, because a basic understanding of business and accounting principles is necessary for success in the program, accepted applicants must complete a series of prerequisites that qualify them for entry into the graduate level classes. Prerequisites include Auditing, Cost Accounting, Calculus, Business Finance, and Business Law. Official transcripts must be submitted to provide proof of prerequisite completion.
To apply for the program, students must submit an application to the Price School of Business. Three letters of recommendation from professional or academic references must be included as well as a current resume. Applicants should complete a personal statement that explains their professional and academic goals and their reasons for choosing the Master of Accountancy program. Finally, professional transcripts and GMAT or GRE scores must be submitted. In general, students who are accepted have a GPA of at least 3.0 and a GMAT score of 550-720. Though the GMAT is preferred, applicants may also submit GRE scores for consideration. A GRE score of 160 is recommended for admission to the program. Test scores may be waived for OU students who have no C grades in accounting classes, an average GPA of at least 3.3, and an A grade in the OU Intermediate Accounting course. Students who have completed at least 75 hours of coursework towards their undergraduate degree may apply to the graduate program, though they will not be admitted to the school until they have completed 90 hours.
Tuition and Financial Aid
The tuition for the 33-hour Master of Accountancy is $11,446.05. Technology and research fees will also be charged and is dependent on the coursework taken each term. Tuition is the same for residents and non-residents of the state of Oklahoma. Students who are interested in scholarships or assistantships may indicate their interest on their program application. A variety of scholarships between $2,000 and $9,000 are available for all full-time students. Graduate assistantships require up to 10 hours of on-campus work in research or undergraduate teaching. Both scholarships and assistantships are awarded based on previous academic performance, employment experience, career goals, and GMAT scores. Though online students are not eligible for assistantships, they may be considered for scholarships. The OU admissions also encourages students to apply for scholarships and grants outside of the university. Organizations that offer aid for the University of Oklahoma Master of Accountancy program include the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Oklahoma Society of Certified Public Accountants (OSCPA).
