Master of Accountancy
The Marriott School of Business at Brigham Young University is one of the nation’s top business schools. This school is responsible for the accounting programs that the university offers for both undergrads and graduate students. One of these is a five-year program designed for undergrads. They can earn a Bachelor of Science and then earn a Master of Accountancy in only five years. The university also offers a standard Master of Accountancy program for students who already have a bachelor’s degree.
This program requires that students pick a focus area, also called a steam area, in either professional accountancy or taxation. All students will complete a management core that includes seven courses such as Ethics for Accounting and Money and Economics. Taxation majors will take eight required courses, including Advanced Financial Accounting, Corporate Taxation 1 and 2, Taxation of Partnerships and Tax Accounting Methods and Accounting for Income Taxes.
Students enrolled in the professional program will take the same management courses, but they will also take seven accounting classes and 18 credits of electives. The required accounting courses in this program include Advanced Financial Statement Analysis, Advanced Management Accounting, and Advanced Taxation. Brigham Young University also offers specialty programs that let students earn a JD degree or an Accounting Information Systems (AIS) certificate as they work on their accounting degrees.

Brigham Young University, also called BYU, is a university in Utah named after Brigham Young. Sometimes called The Y, it is one of the only universities in the United States entirely owned and operated by a religious institution. The Church of the Jesus Christ of Later-Day Saints, often referred to as the Mormon Church, both founded the school and still runs it today. Brigham Young University Accreditation Details
Accreditation is important for several reasons. The most important is because it ensures that the university meets the requirements that an organization has in place regarding the programs and opportunities that it offers students. With both regional and specialty accreditation, BYU prepares students for their futures with programs that go over the skills they will need in the field. This university has regional accreditation from the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU), which means that students can both transfer school credits to the university and apply for the financial aid that they need. The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) granted accreditation to the university for all its business and accounting programs too.
Brigham Young University Application Requirements
The application requires that accounting majors must follow will vary based on whether they enroll in the university’s integrated program. This program allows undergrads to enroll in a dual version of the program and begin taking graduate courses in their junior years. Students can attend an information session near the end of their sophomore year. This session will talk about the benefits of the program and allow students to decide between applying to the combined program or remaining in the undergrad program. Students will complete an application packet and write a short essay to apply to the program.
Students who already have a bachelor’s degree from BYU or any other university must meet other application requirements. Those students must take six fundamental business classes, including Introduction to Economics, Management Information Systems and Principles of Finance. They will also take six accounting courses that make up the junior core. Those who studied accounting at the undergrad level can present their transcripts to show that they already took these classes. All other students will take these classes from BYU before starting the Master of Accountancy program. The Y requires that students have a college GPA of 3.0 or higher in the last two years of classes taken. It also asks for a GMAT score and a completed application that students must submit by March 1.
Tuition and Financial Aid
BYU charges different tuition rates for graduate students based on whether they are members of the Mormon (LDS) Church. LDS students pay $13,060 per year, while students who are not members pay $26,120 per year. BYU expects that students will pay more than $3,600 a year for their personal expenses, including the cost of the health insurance that the university offers.
Both incoming students and transfer students can apply for financial aid. They must use the FAFSA, which asks for their parents’ tax records or documents to determine how much the student’s parents can contribute to his or her educational costs. Those who have less support from their families qualify for more aid. They can get subsidized loans that do not have any interest charged until they graduate and grants that they do not pay back. Undergrads can also take part in the work-study program when they live on the university’s campus. Online and traditional students can apply for alternative loans also.
BYU scholarships are available for students who are also members of the LDS Church and other grad students. It has a mentor program that awards students up to $25,000 a year in exchange for recipients mentoring undergrads. Other programs give students money to present their work at professional conferences and to do doctoral or graduate work. Brigham Young University allows students to work on its campus up to 20 hours a week for money while enrolled in a graduate program too.
