Since all businesses must accurately track and report their financial data to multiple stakeholders, the accounting profession will continue to have a supporting role in businesses operating in both domestic and international economic markets. However, those qualified to perform the role of accountants in many companies must meet certain education, training and licensing requirements. The journey of these business professionals along the accounting career path often begins with comprehensive accounting degree programs. Any of these accredited accounting degree programs in Oklahoma would be a good choice to start that path.

DeVry University

Keller Graduate School of Management

The Keller Graduate School of Management is a pioneer in online graduate business degree programs that cater to working adult learners. Since the School of Management received approval from its accreditation authority in the late 1990s to offer its graduate degree programs online, it has grown to include a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree program with 19 concentration options, seven specialized advanced degree programs and 15 graduate certificate programs. Keller Graduate School delivers these programs in blended learning formats that allow students to take classes online or at one of its 85 classroom locations around the country including the Oklahoma City campus. Over the years, Keller also recruited faculty with real world industry experience who pass along their first hand knowledge of business management and operations to their students.

Master of Science in Accounting

The Master of Science in Accounting (MSAC) offered by Keller is designed to have business professionals earn their graduate accounting degree while preparing for the certified public accounting (CPA) licensing examination. The faculty and staff who developed Keller graduate program curricula realized that students who take the Becker CPA preparation program had statistically higher pass rates than those students who did not take the Becker review. For this reason, they incorporated the Becker CPA exam review materials into their MSAC degree program. Students who already have their CPA license can customize their MSAC degree to include courses that further their professional interests while earning an advanced accounting degree. During the MSAC program, students can expect to take courses relating topics like financial accounting, current accounting issues, the regulatory environment and auditing.

Master of Business Administration (MBA), Accounting Specialization

The Keller MBA with an accounting specialization also incorporates the Becker CPA exam review within its curriculum, but its overall program objectives are slightly different from those of the Keller MSAC program. Many students who enroll in the MBA in Accounting program already work in the accounting career field, and they are either CPA candidates or have already obtained the designation. Upon completion of the Keller MBA with a concentration in accounting, students are prepared to take on corporate managerial functions. The accelerated MSAC program allows students to complete the specialized degree program in 20 months, but the comprehensive MBA in Accounting program is usually completed in 32 months. The MBA in Accounting consists of 30 credit hours of required business management courses, 12 credit hours of topics in the accounting concentration area and six credit hours worth of electives that allow students to further customize their learning experience.

Master of Accounting & Financial Management

When employers seek specialists in accounting and finance with strong analytical skills from Keller Graduate School, they would tend to recruit graduates from the Master of Accounting & Financial Management (MAFM) program. While the curriculum for this degree program also includes the Becker CPA exam review materials, it offers more accounting and finance related course work and fewer general management classes. Those who are not CPA candidates can customize their degree program to efficiently focus on preparing for the certified fraud examiner (CFE) licensing exam or careers in finance. The MAFM with an emphasis on CPA preparation consists of 18 credit hours of core course topics, 15 credit hours of specialized accounting course work, nine credit hours of Becker Review CPA exam preparation and three credit hours of an elective topic. Those enrolled in the MAFM with a CFE emphasis or a Finance emphasis can expect to take 18 credit hours of classes relating to the core course topics, 15 credit hours of classes on the chosen emphasis subject and 12 credit hours of electives.
